Overall 4 Year Total Credits11121
Or equivalent course to fulfill Communication Requirement.
Students without credit for Biology 12 must take BIOL_V 111, which can be counted as an Unrestricted Elective.
Students may substitute MATH_V 102, 104 or 110 for MATH_V 100, and MATH_V 103 or 105 for MATH_V 101. Students who have not completed Calculus 12 should take MATH_V 180 or 184 as a substitute for MATH_V 100.
It is recommended that students take a minimum of 6 credits of 100, 200 level courses that contribute toward interdisciplinary breadth. This includes courses in science (e.g., biology), geography, sociology, psychology and political science.
FRE_V 290 and FRE_V 306 are recommended.
STAT_V 200, BIOL_V 300, FRST_V 231 or ECON_V 325 can be substituted for LFS_V 252.
Students must complete their first year MATH_V requirement before taking ECON_V 301, 302 and 303, and must take ECON_V 301 and other prerequisites before taking 400 level ECON_V courses.
Choose from FRE_V 302, 340, 374, 420, 460, 474 and 490. Recommended: FRE_V 340, 460 and 474 (Food Markets and Development); FRE_V 374, 420 and 474 (Land, Resource_Vs & Environment); and FRE_V 302 and either FRE_V 460 or FRE_V 420 (Food and Resource Management).
There are three topic areas (see note 7). Students can specialize by choosing all supporting courses from one topic area or can achieve breadth by choosing supporting courses from multiple topic areas. Acceptable courses are listed on the Food and Resource Economics website.
Choose any eligible 300 or 400 level course in COMR_V, ECON_V and FRE_V. Students with a strong interest in research should take FRST_V 399 and consider having a FRE faculty member supervise a directed studies course (FRE_V 497) and/or a 6 credit thesis (FRE_V 499).
If FRE_V 497 (Directed Studies in Food and Resource Economics) is chosen, it must have a quantitative focus and the work plan must be approved by the program advisor.
A minimum of 45 credits required for the Major must be from courses numbered 300 or higher.
