Program of Study Guide for students who entered the program in 2022/2023 or earlier

B.M.S. students are expected to make regular progress in their program requirements each year, completing Core Requirements as scheduled. They are further expected to register in designated sections of Core Courses each year, along with peers in their cohort. See Registration.

In Year One students will normally complete:

  • the "Media Studies" stream of the Co-ordinated Arts Program. This CAP program comprises ASTU_V 100, CRWR_V 213, FIST_V / CINE_V 100, JRNL_V 100, VISA_V 1101; and,
  • CPSC_V 1101,2 or CPSC_V 1032; and,
  • electives3.

In Year Two students will normally complete:

  • “Core” courses: ENGL_V 232, FIPR_V 133, FIST_V / CINE_V 240, INFO_V 250, VISA_V 241; and,
  • “Core Plus” required electives; and,
  • electives3.

In Year Three students will normally complete:

  • “Core” courses: ARTH_V 380, CRWR_V 312, ENGL_V 332, FIST_V / CINE_V 340, VISA_V 210; and,
  • “Core Plus” required electives; and,
  • electives.

In Year Four students will normally complete:

  • “Core” courses: ARTH_V 480 or JRNL_V 400, GERM_V 412 / GMST_V 475, INFO_V 419, INFO_V 456; CPSC_V 3444; and,
  • “Core Plus” required electives; and,
  • electives.

1Students interested in taking additional courses in Computer Science or in completing a Minor in Computer Science will normally select CPSC_V 110.

2Students are required to attempt either CPSC_V 103 or 110 no later than Year 2 of the program. Those who do not complete the requirement prior to entering Year 3 of the program may have their registration restricted until the requirement is completed.

3Students are strongly encouraged to include at least 3 credits of 100-level Art History (ARTH_V) as electives in Year One or Two as preparation for advanced study in the discipline in Year Three’s ARTH_V 380.

4Students must successfully complete CPSC_V 103 or CPSC_V 110 before attempting CPSC_V 344. Students cannot attempt CPSC_V 103 or CPSC_V 110 concurrently with CPSC_V 344.
