To be considered for Dean’s Scholar or Dean’s List, students must meet the Faculty’s standards for credit load and academic integrity.
Students must have completed a minimum of 27 percentage-graded credits and have passed all courses in a Winter Session.
For students in a cooperative education or an education abroad program who are registered at UBC for only one term in Winter Session, the minimum for the academic term at UBC is 12 percentage-graded credits.
For students in a Dual Degree in Science and Arts or in Science and Music, the overall course load is a minimum of 27 percentage-graded credits, and the minimum B.Sc. course load is 12 percentage-graded credits. The average of all B.Sc. credits, as well as the average of B.Sc. credits combined with the best credits registered under the other Faculty’s degree code (totaling at least 27 credits), must both meet the minimum average stated below.
For students in a Dual Degree in Science and Education, the overall course load is a minimum of 27 percentage-graded credits, and the minimum B.Sc. course load is 21 percentage-graded credits. The average of all B.Sc. credits, as well as the average of B.Sc. credits combined with the best credits registered under the other Faculty’s degree code (totaling at least 27 credits), must both meet the minimum average stated below.
Students who have been found by the President to have committed academic misconduct, or who have admitted to committing academic misconduct and have entered into an Integrity Plan as part of the Diversionary Option are not eligible for these designations for the session in which the academic misconduct occurred. Decisions regarding the awarding of the Dean’s Scholar or Dean’s List designation may be paused or held until the President’s decision regarding any allegations of academic misconduct has been made.
Dean's Scholar
Dean’s Scholar designation recognizes the highest level of academic achievement in the Faculty of Science.
Graduating students and students promoted to 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year class standing with an average of 90.0% or better in the previous Winter Session will receive the designation "Dean's Scholar" on their records.
For students in a Dual Degree in Science and Arts or in Science and Music, the overall course load is a minimum of 27 percentage-graded credits, and the minimum B.Sc. course load is 12 percentage-graded credits. Dean's List

Graduation Standing
The designation "with Distinction" will be entered on the degree parchment for any student who graduates while in good standing and who has achieved an average of at least 85.0% on 30 percentage-graded credits of Science courses numbered 300 or above designated as part of the program by the department or, if fewer than 30 credits are specified, approved by the Dean.
A specialization may specify one or more of the courses to be included in the 30-credit average. For all students completing an honours thesis, the course and grade will be included in the average.
