Finance

Every student in the third year of the Bachelor of Commerce program is required to declare an option of study.

Students who achieve a minimum grade of 67% in each of COMM_V 190, COMM_V 191, COMM_V 293, COMM_V 294, COMM_V 295, and COMM_V 298 are eligible to self-declare Finance as their option.

Students who select the Finance option are encouraged to register in the courses necessary for their specialization (option) on their assigned date of registration.

Registration in the Finance option does not guarantee enrolment in any specific course or section. Note that space in required courses is limited.

Third Year

Third year of this option requires that students complete:

  • COMM_V 370, 371, 374

Fourth Year

Fourth year of this option requires that students complete:

  • 6 credits of finance courses at the 300/400 level2

2 See Faculty Website for list of finance courses available to fulfill this requirement

Early Entry

Students interested in early entry into the Finance Option must complete COMM_V 298 and apply for entry by the end of Term 1 of the Second Year. A limited number of outstanding students will be accepted. Early entry students will complete COMM_V 370 and COMM_V 371 in Term 2 of Second Year instead of in Third Year.

Other Finance courses that may be taken as Commerce electives include: COMM_V 271, 375, 387, 486K. Students should take note of the prerequisites required for these courses.

Students are permitted to retake a required option core course only once if they have failed it, without needing to submit an appeal. Students who need to retake a core option course for a third time must appeal to the Director or designate within the Office of Student Academic Services for permission. Should a student’s appeal be denied, or should they fail the required option core course for a third time, they will be required to switch to a different specialization (option).
