First Nations and Indigenous Studies

First Nations and Indigenous Studies is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program in the Faculty of Arts. Students can choose to major or minor in the program. FNIS courses explore the cultural, political, economic, and legal issues that have come to inform the experiences of Indigenous peoples locally, nationally, and globally.

Major in First Nations and Indigenous Studies

Lower Level Requirements

Students must complete:

  • FNIS 100 (3) and 3 credits at any level from FNEL.
  • FNIS 210 (3)
  • FNIS 220 (3)

Upper Level Requirements

Students must complete:

  • FNIS 300 (3)
  • FNIS 310 (3)
  • FNIS 320 (3)
  • FNIS 400 (6)
  • 9 credits of FNIS or INLB courses at the 300/400 level.
  • An additional 6 credits at the 300/400 level from the Approved Course List.

Minor in First Nations and Indigenous Studies

Lower Level Requirements

Students must complete:

  • FNIS 100 (3) and 3 credits at any level from FNEL.
  • FNIS 210 (3)
  • FNIS 220 (3)

Upper Level Requirements

Students must complete:

  • FNIS 310 (3)
  • 9 credits of FNIS or INLB courses at the 300/400 level.
  • An additional 6 credits at the 300/400 level from the Approved Course List.
