    Development of new media technologies, their applications, and their cultural, political, and social impacts.

  2. JRNL_V 200 (3) Journalism Here and Now

    Examines the technologies and trends that are changing the profession of journalism. Explore the dynamic, changing, and sometimes problematic world of journalism through critical analysis and creating works of journalism.

  3. JRNL_V 201 (3) Introduction to News Audiences

    The evolution of news audiences and their relationships with journalists. Examines different approaches to audience engagement and various forms of such engagement.

  4. JRNL_V 320 (3) Multimedia Journalism

    Principles of multimedia storytelling with hands-on journalistic methods in information gathering, fact-checking, and ethical decision making. Prerequisite: One of JRNL 200, JRNL 201.

  5. JRNL_V 325 (3) Fundamentals of Community Reporting

    Best practices of feature writing in relation to under-represented and marginalized communities with a focus on ethics and social responsibility. Prerequisite: One of JRNL 200, JRNL 201.

  6. JRNL_V 400 (3) Feminist Postcolonial Critique and Journalism in a Digital Age

    Feminist postcolonial critique of journalism, and an examination of underlying democratic ideals in a rapidly evolving media landscape.

  7. JRNL_V 420 (3) Decoding Social Media

    Examines the challenges, opportunities and foundational research related to the emergence of social media platforms, services and tools as part of an evolving media ecosystem. Political, social, ethical and legal implications for media organizations, journalists and citizens. Prerequisite: Restricted to fourth-year students. Prior to registration, a minimum of 12-credits of 300-level courses related to media, technology and/or communications recommended.

  8. JRNL_V 425 (3) Journalism and Social Change Movements

    Critique of the role journalism and news coverage have played in major social change movements in Canada and internationally. How journalism has catalyzed, promoted, misrepresented, or undermined social change through news reporting. Restricted to fourth-year students registered in the Journalism and Social Change minor.

  9. JRNL_V 440 (3) Imagine Journalism Studio

    Journalism startups and media innovation from practice, organizational models, audiences, leadership, theories of change, entrepreneurship and critical perspectives. Prerequisite: Restricted to fourth-year BMS students. Credit cannot be granted for both JRNL 440 and JRNL 540. Equivalency: JRNL 540.
