CHIN_V: Chinese

For each academic session (W and S), prior to registration in any CHIN_V course, students are required to complete the online Chinese Placement Questionnaire at https://placement.asia.ubc.ca/ to obtain a placement approval certificate.     Skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Mandarin Chinese, an active vocabulary of about 250 Chinese words, and basic grammar. Credit will be granted for only one of CHIN_V 131 or CHIN_V 101 or CHIN_V 134. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

  2. CHIN_V 133 (3) Basic Chinese I: Part 2 (Non-Heritage)

    Reading, writing, and presentation skills in business documentation, focusing on technical Chinese as used in the workplace. Emphasis on specialized vocabulary and development of communicative competence as relevant to advertising, the stock market and E-commerce.     A reading-intensive introduction to modern Chinese literature from 1900 to 1949, with a focus on fiction. Credit will be granted for only one of CHIN_V 451 or CHIN_V 411.
