ASIX: Asian Studies Crossings

  1. ASIX 220 (3) Indigeneities in Asia and Asian Diaspora

    Introduction to Indigenous methodologies, contemporary cultures, and issues of Indigenous peoples in Asia and Asian diaspora, and Indigenous-Asia relation-making in Canada.

  2. ASIX 300 (3-9) Topics in Asian Studies Crossings

    Transnational, transcultural, or transregional approaches to Asian and/or diasporic Asian literature, history, visual culture, religion, or communities. Topics vary from section to section. Consult Department for current offerings.

  3. ASIX 315 (3) Hong Kong Diaspora in Canada

    Various social issues relating to Hong Kong diaspora in Canada, particularly pertaining to their long history of migration to Canada; their cultural developments and experiences; and their challenges and contributions in their new cultural environment. Recommended: Second-year standing or higher

  4. ASIX 320 (3) Global Hong Kong

    A transdisciplinary exploration of the global connections of Hong Kong through the lens of cultural texts, social phenomena, and historical events.

  5. ASIX 383 (3) What is Modern Arabic?

    Examines Arabic language and writing using approaches from sociolinguistics, with examples from Arabic-speaking communities in the Arab world, the diasporas, and beyond. Basic Arabic language proficiency is strongly recommended through completion of ARBM 101, ARBC 101, or a placement interview.
