    Language Proficiency Index (LPI):Deadline for completion of the Language Proficiency Index (LPI) test by Out-of-Province students intending to take a first-year English course in September 2005. Out-of-Province students may be granted permission write on August 28th if they miss the LPI sitting in their province.     International Student Services welcome services for new international (including US) and exchange students (August 8 to 26 inclusive, and ongoing).

    Student Housing & Hospitality Services: Winter Session Residences open for Term 1 at 9:00 a.m.

    Labour Day. University closed.

    Graduate Studies: Students wishing to apply for Affiliated Fellowships and external awards administered through the University (NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR) for 2017-18 should check with their departments for internal student deadlines.

    Start of Winter Session Term 1, most faculties.

    Distance Education: Start date for September (Term A and B) courses.

    Imagine UBC: First-day orientation program for undergraduate students in most programs. All classes are replaced by the Imagine UBC Day. See Imagine UBC for a list of participating programs and exceptions.

    Last day for payment of first instalment of fees for registration and course changes made before September 1.
